Overview
Recall Reader ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
Data We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address for authentication purposes. This is stored securely via Supabase.
Reading Data
Your reading progress, bookmarks, and highlights are stored locally on your device. We do not upload or sync your personal reading data to our servers.
AI Feature Usage
When you use AI features ("Recall Summary", "Who Is This?", "Explain This"), we send text excerpts from your book to our servers to generate responses. This data is:
- Processed by OpenAI's API to generate responses
- Not stored permanently after the response is generated
- Not used to train AI models
Character profiles may be cached anonymously to improve response times for other readers of the same book. These caches contain only the AI-generated character description, not your personal reading data.
Subscription Information
If you subscribe to Recall Reader Pro, payment processing is handled by Google Play and RevenueCat. We receive subscription status information but not your payment details.
How We Use Your Data
- To provide and improve the app's functionality
- To authenticate your account
- To process AI feature requests
- To manage your subscription status
- To send transactional emails (password resets, receipts)
Data Sharing
We share data with the following service providers:
- Supabase — Authentication and database hosting
- OpenAI — AI text processing (for AI features only)
- RevenueCat — Subscription management
- Google Play — App distribution and payments
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Data Retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email below.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Opt out of non-essential data processing
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)
If you choose to use your own OpenAI API key, your AI requests are sent directly to OpenAI using your key. We do not store or have access to your personal API key beyond the duration of each request.
Children's Privacy
Recall Reader is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification.
